Hello parents!
In the first two weeks of music, third graders learn how to read music on a musical staff and review how to read and play rhythms. This will help them in learning how to play the recorder. There are links at the end of this post that will take you to online games to help your child learn how to read music.
All Gloucester music teachers use the highly motivational method of teaching recorder called Recorder Karate. In this method, each song they learn also has at least one new concept to learn. Each song also corresponds with a small string belt that students will earn based on how well the student plays the song individually for me. If you look to the left, you will see the Recorder Karate Student Book free for you to download and print if you wish. Your student will receive this book with their recorder, but it is there for you in case your child's is lost or has been forgotten at school.
I look forward to teaching your child to play the recorder this year!
