In my opinion, one of the most exciting things about fourth grade is that your child has the opportunity to learn a band instrument. This includes: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. This is an optional program that is run after school. For the first week in music, fourth graders will have a quick review of the band instruments they have to choose from, so it will better help them make a decision, if they decide to join band.
The second week of music class will start to shift focus away from band instruments and towards our first unit: learning about the Star Spangled Banner!
Another exciting thing that happens in fourth grade is that the fourth graders get to learn how to play the ukulele! Thankfully this year, I will be teaching ukulele to both of the schools I work at. The first two weeks of music class will focus on the history of the ukulele, as well as the parts of the ukulele and how to care for the ukuleles in the music classroom.
I am excited to teach your child about so many new things this year.
