It is the time of year when all of the fifth graders in the district are starting to learn how to dance for the Mad Hot Ball (which is Sunday, May 7th, 2017). Your children may be hesitant at first, but once they start dancing they will love it! Click here for a short clip of the video I will be showing to some of my students about the Mad Hot Ball experience (this video is from 2013).
Miss Tina, from Miss Tina's Dance Studio, will be teaching the students about ballroom dancing. The students will learn five different dances, four of which they may compete with at the Mad Hot Ball. The first dance they learn is called the Polka Mixer. This dance is the easiest and serves as a great ice breaker. The students dance in a circle and change partners quickly, which helps if they are nervous or concerned about dancing with another student in the class. They quickly realize that they are more focused on the dance step (and keeping up with the music) than who they are dancing with.
The four dances they can compete in are: Swing, Cha Cha, Merengue, and Tango. These will be learned in the next few months, in preparation for the Mad Hot Ball. Please encourage your child to show you some of the dances they have learned, they might surprise you!
