Hello parents,
Your child has learned about all of the songs for the Cape Ann Symphony except for the one most of them know, Star Wars. Starting this week, the students will be learning how to play Star wars on the boomwhackers, with the whole class. Boomwhackers are hollow plastic tubes cut to different lengths to produce different notes when struck together or on a hard surface. They are color coded by note, and very fun to play. Each student will receive one note (depending on class size, they may get one or two boomwhackers of that note) along with sheet music for the beginning of the star wars theme. I will sing it to them and with them, and then direct them in playing the piece.
Once they have mastered playing Star Wars with the boomwhackers, I will introduce xylophones that each student will have a chance to play. The xylophones will play along with the boomwhackers.
Here is a video of Mrs. Houghton's Fifth Grade class at East Gloucester playing Star Wars with boomwhackers and xylophones!

Next Friday, the 27th, is when the fifth and fourth graders will be attending the Cape Ann Symphony concert. I hope they are prepared for a fun event!
